The Torbay Common, an $8.9 million project, will be developed in the heart of the community of Torbay just off Bauline Line (see map) on a 4.4-acre site previously home to the Kinsmen Centre. The Kinsman Centre has been demolished to make way for infrastructure with a much larger footprint.
The overall size of the new centre will be approximately 2,074 m2 (22,324 ft2), including a gymnasium, a large divisible multipurpose room, offices, canteen/kitchen area, and a large, open lobby designed to host gatherings and connect seamlessly to outdoor spaces. These, will include a welcoming entrance plaza and a rear green space designed to support regular outdoor markets and other events. As well, the site will have a modern playground and splash pad for younger children and a skate park for youth.
